What is a residential proxy and why use one?

A residential proxy routes your connection through an IP that an internet provider (ISP) assigns to a household. Target sites see an ordinary home visitor, so you can collect public web data reliably.

Server IPs reveal a datacenter origin through their address ranges alone. Residential IPs arrive the same way local users do, so you see the prices, ads and search results that people in that country actually see.

Residential, static residential or datacenter proxy: which should you choose?

Choose a residential proxy to collect many pages with frequent IP changes, a static residential proxy for account work that needs one IP for a long time, and a datacenter proxy for fast, low-cost bulk requests. All three use the same token and balance, so you can mix them per task.

A static residential proxy is also called an ISP proxy. It combines the natural profile of a household IP with the convenience of a fixed IP, which makes it easy to allowlist the IP on a target system.

Rotating residential proxy vs sticky session: what is the difference?

Rotating means every request gets a new residential IP, while a sticky session keeps the same IP for up to 120 minutes. You switch between them simply by adding or leaving out a session name in the username.

Without a session name, each request leaves through a different IP. When you collect many product pages or search results quickly, requests never pile up on one IP, which keeps the job stable.

Add session-name to the end of the username and the same IP stays as long as you use that name. This fits flows such as browsing several pages after a login or checking multi-step screens. Use letters and digits for the name, and change the name whenever you need a new IP.

How do you pick a country and city with a residential proxy?

You pick a country and city by adding country-code and city-name to the username. Nothing to install, and one gateway gate.proxyour.com:7000 covers all 60 countries and 175 cities.

Country codes are two lowercase letters (jp for Japan, us for the United States). City names are lowercase too, with spaces turned into underscores. Your account token goes in the password field.

With a city set, you see the local ads, delivery areas and local search results that users in that city see. For a mobile IP, add type-mobile after user, available in 56 countries.

How is residential proxy pricing calculated?

A residential proxy deducts from your balance per GB of traffic actually used, from $0.80 per GB. There is no fixed monthly fee, and you use as much as you need within the amount you topped up.

Each top-up can be $20 to $10,000, and visitors connecting from World Bank low and lower-middle income countries can top up from $10. Top-ups of $100 or more get a bonus by amount, added as a separate bonus line.

Worked example

Top up $100 and a 20% bonus of $20 is added, for a $120 balance. At the start price of $0.80 per GB, that is up to 150 GB. You can check usage anytime in the dashboard usage history.

What are the benefits of a residential proxy for web scraping?

Using a residential proxy for web scraping spreads requests across many household IPs, which reduces blocks and lets you collect pages exactly as each region sees them. It is most useful when you need a steady flow of prices, products or search results from public web pages.

Sending many requests from one IP often leads to rate limits or check screens. Rotating the IP per request spreads the load evenly, and any failed request can simply be retried through another IP.

How do you start using a residential proxy?

You start a residential proxy in five steps: get a token, top up, build a username, add it to your tool and check the IP. There is no software to install, so you can send your first request as soon as you are set.
